2020: The Year of the Window & Small Projects

If I were the type of person who keeps a paper planner, I would have set that thing on fire nine months ago. Who can plan for this kind of mess? Life was and still is so difficult for many that my only goal for 2020 was to be a force for good. That’s it. With that as my guiding principle, I spent a lot more time helping people on Instagram than I did blogging. I filmed and edited 45 videos this year. Most of them were terrible and somewhat cringe-worthy, but the content is solid. In some ways, I feel like I took a year off from shaking things up at BHH. While I am certainly looking forward to more progress in 2021, I’m still not buying a stupid planner.

January – March

Back in early 2020, when dinosaurs roamed the earth, the #YearoftheWindow was fresh and new. Of all the things I did this year, I am the proudest of jump-starting a mini window restoration movement on Instagram. The Year of the Window will continue in 2021.

Original Windows

We also started my daughter’s teen bedroom makeover.

April

During April, I spent a lot of time at floor level sealing the stair treads and installing shoe molding in the entryway.

May – June

According to my blog notes, all I did during these two months was live the pandemic life. I know I was definitely growing my garden starts, but honestly, who knows what else? Netflix was involved. I remember that.

July

July was the month that I made new feet for the dumpster desk. That was fun.

August

By August, there was finally some noticeable progress in my daughter’s room, and I revealed her tree mural and the full dumpster desk makeover.

September

In September, our trip to the UP of Michigan saved our sanity. We’ve taken fancier vacations, but that off-the-grid experience will remain one of our favorites.

October

It was nice to distract myself with the lopsided living room project during October. We had unseasonably warm weather all month, which was perfect for cleaning that stinky Facebook Marketplace rug.

November

During November, I finally felt like moving forward with bigger projects. My energy and enthusiasm returned, so I snuck in a hygge bedroom refresh and revealed the lopsided living room makeover results.

December

Now, here we are in December. My office is updated, and we’re just a few days out from celebrating the new year.

I have always been an optimistic person, and I cannot help but look forward to 2021 with a little bit of excitement. I feel a subtle shift towards something different than what we all experienced in 2020, and that’s enough for me to stay hopeful.

May those of us who can be a force for good in 2021.

If you celebrate Christmas, I hope you have a merry one, and Happy New Year to all.

I’m also hopeful that 2021 will be better than 2020. It looks like you had some good projects this past year despite the pandemic.

I hope so too, Sharon. It’s been one heck of a year. I hope your 2021 is better too.

I am feeling pretty optimistic about next year as well, and can’t wait to knock at least half of my goals off my precious List of Things to Accomplish. I usually don’t work full-time, (it’s too time-consuming) but this year got a job out of boredom and look forward to some paycheck action and hopefully a new house to work on. It’s always fun to look back and I think that you have accomplished quite a bit, as usual Stacy. Happy 2021!
