This week’s crisis of faith is brought to you by an on-line paint visualizer. Monday, was all about progress progress progress. I felt fantastic. After a full day of work, I finished priming the walls.
I thought to myself; This project is going to be a piece of cake. And the universe smiled, patted me on the head, and let out a little chuckle. It is not going to be a piece of cake.
Brains are funny. I marvel at my ability to make important decisions, but when it comes to a paint color, I become paralyzed. Keeping in mind that paint colors do not save lives, I plugged the picture above into an online paint visualizer.
What I thought I was doing was trying out a high-contrast option, and a light-and-bright one. What really happened is that I ended up with these two grainy photos to share, and for some reason, the software changed the bright white paint to gray, halfway through.
High Contrast
Monochromatic
I do not love the high contrast option, and the monochromatic gray makes the breakfast room look like it did before I finished priming. Light and bright may be the winner, but I suspect I will just have to dive in and paint before I know for sure. Perhaps my faith is intact, after all.
In other news, I am working on the process for making these single-pane windows double-paned. I am playing around with real glass and plexiglass. There are pros and cons for each, and next week, I will discuss that in-depth.
Housekeeping Notes
This week, I dusted off one of the unused pages on this blog and updated the “About Me” page. Since we have a lot of new followers, I thought it was a great time to freshen up the blog. The Blake Hill House blog is relationship driven. I love getting to know our readers, and I hope you enjoy learning about our projects and a little bit about us too.
On Thursdays, when we link up on the official One Room Challenge guest participant page, our link will likely be towards the bottom of the page. See, I’m an early bird, not a night owl, and the link-up goes live right after midnight. Last spring, I tried desperately to stay up late enough to post at the exact moment the links when live, trying to be listed at the top. Our post still ended up in the middle. So, this year, I’m going to bed, and I am satisfied with our link at the bottom.
An easy way to find us every week is to subscribe to our blog directly via the method of your choice. You will find many reader options on the top righthand side of this page. You can also find us on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. Handy links are at the bottom of this post.
When you get a chance, head on over to Calling It Home to see all the progress from the Featured Designers and the Guest Participants too. The paintbrushes are flying.

Oh mine!! I would love this in my own home … such a beautiful space and I can’t wait to see more of it unfolds! seriously I need this room!
Stacy
Thank you, Tim! 🙂

I feel your pain on picking a paint color, after 7 different little cans of paint, Joe and I can not agree on one. As a matter of fact neither of us have liked any of the colors either of us have picked! I think the one wall we keep painting over is about to fall over from all the paint on it! We will prevail, I hope!
Stacy
I am glad I am not alone, and I am sad that I am not alone. 😀 Why is this so hard? Good luck!

I happened to be up late last night and checked for the link a little after 11. Then at 6:30 this morning, there were already over 100 links! Early bird and East coast are not a great combination for linking up. 🙂 Last year, we were in Europe during the ORC and as a result of the time difference, I managed to link up early enough to be in the first 50. It was very exciting for me. 🙂 I look forward to hearing about the double-paned window solution next week!

(I should clarify, it wasn’t there at 11!)

I think what I really need to do is move to Australia. Then, I’ll be one day early. 😀

I’m sending you “just throw the paint on the walls” vibes. I mean, really, what’s the absolute worst that could happen? You don’t like it, so you prime and paint over it – and if that’s the worst that can happen, well, that ain’t too shabby. 😉
(I have regretted none of my impulsive paint choices, FYI.)
Stacy
You are right, Ame!

I thought light walls with dark windows was a winning combo. But maybe the contrast seems too much due to the ratio of so much window in such a small room. Perhaps one color for the windows, and the walls at 25% or 50% of that color? But still a clever idea using the online paint visualizer. A good run could help sort things out for ya 🙂
Stacy
Yes, I am not sure what doesn’t work, but the ratio idea could be right. The room is almost all window, so highlighting the frames almost feels unnecessary.

What ever you decide, It will be gorgeous, those windows alone are so so pretty… I think it would be hard to “mess” it up…but I know… you want to LOVE it and paint color is so important, cause you don’t want to keep changing it!! Great work friend!
Stacy
Thank you, Summer.

The paint struggle is real. I have yet to decide on what colors I will be using in my office. I can’t wait to read about your window process next week!
Stacy
Thanks for the commiseration. 🙂 I hope we can both figure it out soon!
Andi
It’s coming along great!! I’m the same way when I make progress. Like you can do anything! Keep it up!
Stacy
Thank you, Andi!
Emy
Your makeovers are always my favorite. I love following along and seeing your gorgeous home. I love the monochromatic look.
Ps. I’m a link in the morning kind of girl too. I need my beauty sleep.
Stacy
Thank you so much, Emy. What a nice thing to say. 🙂 I am happy that you enjoy our projects.

Eek. I usually favor the monochromatic look, but for this room I like the opposite?!
I’m sure it’s to look amazing either way! Looking forward to see what you choose. And I’m never in the top, I post when I post and that’s that. Too much other stuff to stress out about the ORC without that!
