Cabin Vibes Bedroom Budget Breakdown

Thank you for all of the positive feedback on the Cabin Vibes Bedroom reveal. It always feels so good to read the comments after a long six weeks. Now that the challenge is over, I thought I would offer a quick budget breakdown. It used to be so embarrassing to talk about money on the blog, but not anymore. It feels appropriate to be honest and transparent about how much these projects cost.

I am actually going to break it down in two ways. I did not pay as much out-of-pocket because I used credit card points, and some of the decor items, such as the Pendleton wool throw, were gifts. However, I also want to provide an actual cost of the project as if I had started from scratch.

My Out-of-Pocket Cost

For this list, I included only new things that I brought into this room. I did not include scavenged items from the rest of the house, such as houseplants or art.

Total out-of-pocket cost: $684 (spread out over 12 months, so it felt more like $440.)

The From-Scratch Cost

It is tough to decide what is considered from scratch, but for this purpose, I include what I bought or brought in new for this project. The list is the same as above except I included the prices for the rest of the items and subtracted the extra paint. You’ll do your mural right the first time.

Total from-scratch cost: $1012

As always, there are so many things that I did not exactly need, but I do not regret anything except all that extra paint! Also, since I paid for the sconces almost a year ago, I did not feel it in my wallet this time around. However, it was still a purchase that I made directly for the room.

The Cabin Vibes Bedroom sure was a fun project. We are still in a holding pattern regarding whether or not our son will get to come home for Hannukah and Christmas, but his room is ready for him if he does.

After one of these kinds of posts, I always ask the same questions because I am so curious, Was this project more expensive than you expected? Does the total cost seem appropriate for this result?

PS: I’m starting work on the front entry this week. It’s finally wallpaper time, and I have several posts coming your way.

I always appreciate a budget breakdown post because it puts these projects firmly in the real world. It goes a long way toward understanding what would be involved in a similar project in someone’s own home instead of just admiring the beautifully styled After pictures.

I completely agree with you. I’m at a point in this house renovation/restoration that I do have a ton of leftover supplies in the basement, but it took some time. I like to think in terms of the core items that someone else to have to buy to create a similar look.

I always enjoy budget breakdowns. As Jen said above, it makes it more relatable. Also, I’m a Jen, too!
