During week two, progress in the Cabin Vibes Bedroom moved as slow as molasses. It was podcast release week, I prepared for a public speaking gig, and I’m gearing up for LASIK tomorrow. To coin a sports term, it was a bye week. Also, since I know very little about team sports, I had to google that term for both spelling and meaning. Team sports and I go together like pesto and ice cream.
If you missed week one, you may read all about it here.
Despite the schedule, I did manage to sneak in a few hours of work, and I spent the bulk of my time painting and priming the ceiling.
Painting acoustic tiles is a real Mike Rowe, Dirty Jobs task. What a drag! The tiles soak up primer and paint like the desert floor–and never evenly. Also, I have to use a brush because a roller doesn’t reach into the cracks between each tile. I finished priming, but I’ve committed to painting ten tiles per day until it’s over.
This week, with Andy’s help, I began patching the plaster. We used the Frankenwall method since none of the cracks were too terrible. I still need to add a couple more layers of patch on each crack. Then, I can sand and start painting the mural.
This week:

My goal today is to complete the plaster patching. I want to get the walls sanded before my LASIK surgery tomorrow. Something tells me that sanding dust and eye surgery are a terrible combination.
You may check in on all of the week two action from the featured designers and the guest participants on the official One Room Challenge blog. Next week, there will be more to see here. I promise! In the meantime, be sure to follow along on Instagram.

Do you have to keep the acoustic tiles for ceiling access or are you painting the for expediency/cost savings? Excited to se the results!
Stacy
Keeping the tiles is simply a cost issue. I don’t have the budget to repair the ceiling underneath.

Even just the primer is helping the ceiling look less dingy. I’m excited to see the beginning of the wall mural painting, something I’m keen to try in a room someday. This project looks like a lot of painting but what a way to reclaim a space and create another “finished” space in the house.
Stacy
Paint is a magic eraser! And, you are correct, Ryan, this project is almost entirely painting. 🙂

Good luck with your LASIK procedure! I checked it out but wasn’t a good candidate for it. 🙁
I am looking forward to the wall mural!
Stacy
I’m sorry that I didn’t reply to this. LASIK went well. I’ve learned that a few of my friends are not candidates, either. 🙁
