Easy DIY Furniture Makeovers – Legs

A couple of months ago, I repaired the legs on our foyer dresser. In addition to posting the tutorial here on the blog, I also shared it on Hometalk. Hometalk is an online community where members can share their home improvement ideas or projects, and they are able to ask and answer all of their DIY questions. I was pleasantly surprised when my dresser repair project was featured in their newsletter.

Recently, the BHH blog was asked by a Hometalk community manager to curate a clipboard of our favorite Hometalk projects that included adding legs to change the look of a piece of furniture or an accessory. Once again, I was surprised, but entirely delighted by the request.

In order to create the clipboard, I looked at a large number of projects involving adding, repairing or changing legs. What I found is that Hometalk users are wildly inventive. Their ideas can be impressive. I narrowed my favorite projects down to 15. My choices are a bit of a hodgepodge, but I really wanted to feature a variety of projects for varying style choices and budgets. Most of tutorials are reasonably easy DIY furniture makeovers. Others require a bit more experience, but the end result is fantastic. Be sure to view the raised pet feeder and the tripod lamp created with crutches. I wish I had that kind of creativity.

Hometalk created this cute graphic (Hey look! There is our dresser at the top left and our logo too.)

The curated clipboard, which includes the actual project links and tutorials, can be found by clicking on the graphic or clicking here.

If you have completed a similar project, I encourage you to join Hometalk and share your work or feel free to tell me all about it by posting a comment.

Hi Stacy! What a great compilation of creative ways to restore furniture! I’m not familiar with HomeTalk, but it sounds like a great resource. I need to check it out.

I came across BHH a few weeks ago, and I’ve thoroughly been enjoying following your restoration projects. My husband and I just moved into an 1880s home and are starting some DIY renovation projects ourselves, so it’s great to read about others working on similar projects.

Thank you. I am so glad to have you as a reader. Congratulations on your new home! How exciting. I have added your blog to my Feedly, and now I can keep up with your renovations too. You might also like http://www.wavyglass.org (Sorry the link is in all caps. I think it is a template default. I tried to fix it a couple of different ways.). Wavy Glass is a site for old home restoration. I often turn to that forum when I have a question, especially about cleaning or fixing something that is over 125 years old.
