For those of you who cannot get enough “before” with no expectation of “after,” this video is for you. The work on this porch has officially been moved to the list of projects that will be completed next summer.
At the end of the video, I mention an inside tour. This video took 24 hours to upload and process (go Verizon high-speed internet!), so the inside video will be ready at a later date.
I am just pleased that I do not sound like Minnie Mouse.

Thank you for reading! 🙂

Just trying to wrap my mind around *why* someone went to the expense of building this balcony. Did mom need a private space to get away from kids 🙂 Does it have amazing views? I can’t imagine it was built for a place to hang the laundry, lol! Maybe an artist type studio? I love homes with history and thinking about how people from previous generations actually lived in them. I think they loved the idea of bringing the outdoors in. I know my grandparents built a screened in porch. My grandfather loved to be outside and the screened in porch was where he spent a lot of time.

A reader on the wavyglass.org forum thought it might have originally been a sleeping screened-in sleeping porch. The house really hasn’t had very many owners considering how old it is. I think we may just be the fourth. It is fun to think about how each space was used. Because this was originally a summer home, bringing the outside in makes a lot of sense. I’m with your grandfather. I am at my most content when I am able to experience the great outdoors. 🙂

I initially assumed this was a sleeping porch which doesn’t seem out of place given the age of your place, even if it wasn’t original. Seeing the inside though, it seems too narrow for a bed.
You have a lovely video voice. I always want to do a video, but I firmly believe that I have a super ditzy voice and tend to ramble.

Yes! You may be right. A poster on wavyglass.org suggested the same thing. A sleeping porch hadn’t crossed my mind since I come from blazing hot California where no one sleeps on the porch in the summer! Thank you for the compliment on my voice. 🙂 I think it would be fun to hear you narrate your progress at your new home.
ETA: The porch is narrow, but it would fit a twin-sized mattress.

You do have a nice video voice. 🙂 I think the porch would make a lovely reading nook to go with your room. It’s off the master, right? How gorgeous would that be??

It is off the master. Finishing it seems like a far off task, but I can see what it will look like already. 🙂
