What a week. I’ve been crushed by work deadlines and paralyzed by hardware and software issues. Now, it is Thursday, and I think I’m back on track. After last week’s post, I went out of town for the weekend. So, I don’t have any progress photos to share today. There’s still a pile of used tile on the floor and full trash bags in the shower. Even so, I did make some pretty big decisions.
By the end of last week, I was ready to give up this round of the One Room Challenge altogether. The guest bath remodel felt so big, and I felt too angry. I’m not an angry person. People who know me see me as patient and calm for the most part. So, spending a prolonged amount of time in an angry state has been no fun, and getting a handle on that has taken some work. I’ve also recently had COVID, and the lasting fatigue is rough. Basically, this project started at a low point and then got a little lower.
After a lot of soul-searching, I have decided to keep going. A friend on Instagram (Hi, Leigh!) suggested that I approach the ORC like a marathon. Even when I know I might not get a PR (personal record) on the big day, I still put in the training time to run my best race. Relating that to the guest bath remodel, I might get a PR (a completed bathroom), but either way, if I keep plugging away at my to-do list, we’ll get something at the end, and I’ll finish strong.
The other big decision I had to make was whether to keep the shower pan or demo it. So, I have decided to consult someone who knows more than I do. Once I get a recommendation, I’ll do what I need to do.
Finally, I did order new tile. It’s nothing fancy, but it’s classic and inexpensive at $3.29 per square foot. The grout I have is a warm greige.
Outside of my drama, it is week three for everyone else participating in the One Room Challenge too. So, be sure to take a look at all of the updates. There are plenty of gorgeous rooms unfolding this round.
Deep breath…and here we go.
