Holy mother of pearl. The One Room Challenge is almost over, and I am not entirely sure what I’ll have to show you by the end of next week. However, I am finally making some measurable progress. After a lot of procrastination, I have two subfloor sections in place. The achilles on both of my feet were complaining after a couple of weeks of tiptoe walking back and forth on the floor joists. So, having something solid to stand on has been a game-changer.
Once the subfloor went down, I finished painting. Sure, I did the work, but the patience award goes to Clare paint. Months ago, when the bathroom remodel started the first time, Clare sent paint for this project. I estimated that the bathroom would be completed in January, and I thought that was conservative. Oh, I was so young and foolish way back then–you know, five months ago.
As the weeks dragged on, it was clear that the bathroom would not be done in January. I did manage to paint the walls after I finished the drywall, but the project came to a complete standstill once the contractor and I parted ways. Clare was so wonderful about everything. I kept emailing them to tell them what was up, and they could not have been nicer. It’s all been such a mess, and working with a company that understands has lowered my stress level.

This bathroom has been white for a few years, and I knew I wanted to paint it white again, but I was looking for something a little warmer. So, I chose Whipped in Semi-gloss. Whipped is the perfect creamy white with just enough sheen to feel clean and wipeable. It’s a lovely soft gloss.
Clare paint has zero VOCs, and I was shocked to discover that It doesn’t smell at all. Unfortunately, most zero or low VOC paints still have an odor, even if it’s fairly nonoffensive. So, that was a pleasant surprise.
The paint stirred together quickly, painted on smoothly, and leveled like a dream. Since I only covered white with a different white, I can’t speak to the coverage. However, it seemed on par with other brands.
After I painted everything, I was excited to dream a little. So, I set some tiles on the floor and propped up a potential baseboard choice.

If I take a few steps back, I can almost picture a full bathroom. It’s really happening!

While there are many more milestones to meet before we can flush a toilet or take a shower, having the walls and wainscoting painted feels really good. I couldn’t have done it without Clare. I am so grateful for their generosity.
