BHH has fallen victim to a serious ice dam problem. I made this little video to show you how serious ice dams can be.

I also created this follow-up video to tell a little bit more about the problem as it relates to our attic.

I have been working on this issue to no avail, for the entire week. The attic is still 40 degrees, and now the outside temperature is 10 degrees. Our dams involve the entire perimeter of the house.

This morning, I glanced out my window and saw a company chipping away at my neighbor’s ice dams. I quickly threw on my warm clothes and ran across the street to get the company name. Coincidentally, I had just sent out an inquiry to the same company via Angie’s List.

Once they finish at my neighbor’s house, they are headed over here. On one hand, I am so relieved. On the other, we have some serious clean-up to do in the spring. This service is not cheap either. I will share the cost once we resolve the issue. I was taught not to discuss money, but this is an old home renovation and restoration blog. I think it is important to be upfront about the cost of owning an old home like BHH.

In the spring, we will add attic insulation to the entire roof and gutter project. 2015 is shaping up to be the year that we stabilize the exterior of Blake Hill House. Cosmetic upgrades will likely have to be pushed aside.
