New Nature-Inspired Art

I am working on the One Room Challenge plan for the bedroom, and I will share your ideas soon. Your ideas gave me a lot to think about as we move forward. In last week’s post, I linked a canvas botanical print from Photowall, a Swedish wall art company. I planned to use it as a leaping-off point for the entire room. Personally, I love it, but Andy and I are still negotiating. Luckily, it seems to be a magical piece of art that fits in wherever I consider hanging it.

The canvas print in this post was a gift to us from Photowall. All opinions are my own. Thank you for supporting the companies that believe in my work and Blake Hill House. Use the coupon code blakehillhouse2021 to receive 25% off any product on the Photowall website.

How Stacy Chooses Art

While I have never been one to say that BHH “talks to me and tells me what it wants,” I do wholeheartedly believe that BHH has a distinct feel. Originally built as a summer house, it’s a mood–casual and carefree–centered around nature and very textural. Most of my more permanent decor choices here are rooted in those feelings, art included.

Some of of the other canvas prints I considered were:

How Andy Chooses Art

Andy works purely from a place of nostalgia. If he loved it as a child, he wants to bring it back. He also enjoys pushing my buttons. These were the canvas prints on his shortlist:

What can I say? Art is subjective, and Photowall knows that. That’s why they have hundreds of choices; all printed to order. We chose a canvas print, but Photowall also prints wallpaper, posters, and murals. They have something for everyone.

Now What?

Andy and I mostly agreed on the Plantasia print, but since he is not 100% sold, I am open to hanging it elsewhere rather than holding fast to the idea of centering our entire bedroom décor around it.

This print is a chameleon. It seems to settle in wherever I put it, and the color hues shift throughout the day. It even works with the busy toile wallpaper.

The Holly Hobbie wallpaper in our bedroom? It goes with that too.

Andy actually started taking the wallpaper down last weekend, and we discovered that the walls were originally baby blue. Guess what? It doesn’t matter. The Plantasia print looks good with baby blue.

I am not kidding about it being a chameleon.

The print still needs a frame, but where do you think we should put it? Where do you think it looks best?

Photowall has generously given me this coupon code to offer to all of you: blakehillhouse2021. Use the code for a 25% discount on any product on the Photowall website. The code is valid for one month.

If you are looking for a new piece of art or planning a room makeover (ahem, the One Room Challenge), please take advantage of my coupon code and use it to buy a print, poster, mural, or wallpaper.

Now promise Andy that you won’t sell out the Vintage Wars print. He wants more time to convince me that it belongs in BHH.

I love the Vintage Wars print too. 🙂 My favorite spot so far is the last pic in your post. The wall is just the right size, and there isn’t going to be a lot of art that can sing with that wallpaper.

I admit that the Vintage Wars print is pretty cute. Maybe we could find a spot for it in the library. 🙂 Also, I agree with you regarding art and that wallpaper. Aside from mirrors, it’s tough to find art that agrees with toile.

I like Plantasia in all the locations. In fact, why not purchase four more so you can hang it in all the places? As far as Vintage Wars goes, Andy should never be given a decision making roll when it comes to art.

Haha! I like the Plantasia print enough to have it in five locations. Andy will take some convincing. 🙂

I like it in all locations but I actually like it best over the piano–I feel like it just works so beautifully with the cream wall and the warm wood of the piano. 🙂

I am leaning towards the dining room too. That room needs a little pop of something. 🙂

Of course Blake Hill House talks to you! Lol! Don’t all old houses?!? My cottage living/dining room was a very unpleasant shade of aged yellow when I bought it. I didn’t even realize what I was doing until after I painted it another shade of yellow. It is a large bright room and just needs yellow!
I am already loving your bedroom without the wallpaper!

Haha! Coincidentally, the main bedrooms in my last two houses were yellow. 🙂 It can be such a happy color.

I love the print and I am looking forward to the spring challenge. I wonder, how do you heat your house? I know you said you don’t have AC, but what do you do on those hot summer days and very cold winter days?

Thank you! We have a forced-air system for heat. It used natural gas. When it eventually craps out on us, we could get a heat/AC combo. All the ductwork is there.
