Our Four Year Blogiversary

The experience with our exchange student from Japan is going very well. As I mentioned last week, I will be posting the “best of BHH” here on the blog until the end of August so I can focus on making sure he is happy, and we are enjoying our family time. Today, I am re-sharing my favorite post series.

June 1 marked the fourth year that we have lived in Blake Hill House. I began blogging about it shortly after that. This year, I was so busy with the porch project that there was no time to celebrate on the blog or otherwise. After our first year here, I wrote a three-part series about how we ended up buying BHH. I don’t know about you, but I’m often intrigued by life stories and how people land where they land.

The story of how we ended up in this giant old house is full of twists and turns. Perhaps you remember? If not, you can get to know us a little better through these posts. Enjoy!

Happy blogiversary! Hope you are enjoying your brief hiatus! If it’s not too prying, and please feel free to decline to answer if it is, I was under the impression that your children are home schooled? If so, how did you decide to become a host family? Glad to hear your exchange student is settling in well!

Thank you! Your question is not too prying. I am a pretty open book. You are correct. My kids are homeschooled. I have wanted to host an exchange student for a long time. However, as you know, homeschoolers do not keep a traditional schedule. I never thought it would be fair for a student to come from another country and have to go to regular school while mine stayed home. I was also concerned about committing to nine full months. That is a long time.

The opportunity to host a younger student for only one month during the summer popped up. The host organization is 4-H. This amount of time is a good compromise. Also, since no one is going to school, the fact that we homeschool doesn’t matter.
