Podcast Episodes #12-#16

True Tales From Old Houses

In July, Devyn and I unveiled our new website, True Tales From Old Houses. It is 100% dedicated to the podcast. While it is nice to have a dedicated space for the show, I recently concluded that it is still relevant content for the BHH blog. Moving forward, I will write brief posts here. The full show notes and audio player will be available on TrueTalesFromOldHouses.com. You may also subscribe wherever you listen to your favorite podcasts.

Here are the episodes you might have missed:

Episode #16: The Party Don’t Stop Just ‘Cause You’re Dead

True Tales From Old Houses
William and Susan Brinson

In this episode, first-time homebuyers, Susan and Will Brinson of House of Brinson and Studio Brinson, tell Stacy how they ended up with their giant fixer-upper. Once a hot spot for selling horses and entertaining, Stony Ford Estate has confirmed to Susan and Will that “The party don’t stop just ’cause you’re dead.”

Episode #15: Ron’s Retirement Project Isn’t Golfing

In this episode, I start off by sharing some difficult news about Devyn’s health. He has recently been diagnosed with esophageal cancer. During his treatment, he will be sharing updates on his personal blog, OurPhillyRow.com.

Next, remember old school internet forums? They still exist, and there is one out there that is an absolute gold mine for old house owners and restorers. It is called The Historic District. Today’s guest, Ron, is a moderator and regular poster on The Historic District, and he goes by the username GothicHome.

When many people retire, they look forward to days of leisure at home or traveling. Ron and his wife, who he affectionately refers to as “upper management,” bought a 4000 square foot Gothic Victorian instead. Nine years into their long-term restoration, Ron is full of humor and insight.

Episode #14: Fan Favorite Ash Dump Archaeology

This week, Devyn and I both had to take an unexpected leave of absence. So, today’s episode is a repeat of a fan favorite–the one that started it all, Ash Dump Archeology with special guest, Donn Grenda. The original air date was September 9, 2018.

Episode #13: Catherine Brooks Speedheater Superhero

In this episode, Devyn and Stacy welcome Catherine Brooks from Eco-Strip–the sole distributor of the Speedheater™ infrared paint stripper and tools. Catherine’s passion for infrared technology and lead-safety education makes her the superhero we need in the old house community.

Bonus Content: What Would Devyn & Stacy Do?

In today’s mini-episode, Devyn and Stacy discuss restoration and renovation conundrums — Q&A style. Find out the answers to these burning questions:

  • What would compel Devyn to paint woodwork?
  • How does Stacy feel about vintage toilets?
  • Will Devyn ever commit to installing the recessed lighting in his parlor?
  • Can vegans even use shellac?

Thank you for listening to and sharing the podcast with your friends.
