It’s been a minute since I wrote a post on Friday. This past year I used my time in new ways, and some tasks, like blog writing, had to take a back seat. For months, whenever I read about cool stuff, I’d think, I want to share that on the blog. Then, the time would whoosh past, and now it is December. At this point, it is best to simply dive back into the Friday post.

Cool Stuff That Happened
- In November, my Instagram account was listed as one of The Best Old House Instagram Accounts to Follow by The Spruce. I can’t play it cool. Being included in that article felt terrific, and the fifteen other old house Instagram accounts on the list are some of my favorites too.
- Also, in November, I wrapped season two of the True Tales From Old Houses podcast. If you are a listener, you know that my co-host, Devyn, is undergoing cancer treatment. So, for most of the season, it was a solo show. Devyn had surgery this past Monday, and his recovery is chugging right along. The prognosis is good, and I cannot wait to have him back!
- Speaking of the podcast, as we gear up for season three, we would love to hear your thoughts about the podcast so far. I’ve created a survey, and we would like to have your feedback. The survey is short, and none of the questions are mandatory.
More Spoonflower Fun
Recently, I partnered with Spoonflower for the front entry makeover. After the swatching process and hanging the new wallpaper, I had a ton of scraps left. I couldn’t bear to toss them, so I did a little crafting. Then, I wrote a guest post for the Spoonflower blog called Ten Easy Projects to Make With Leftover Wallpaper. My favorite craft was the Danish Star, but I also used leftover scraps to camouflage a light switch in the hall.
The full article is available on the Spoonflower blog today. I would love it if you took a look. Many of the projects can be adapted for different types of leftover paper. Craftiness is not required. If you can use a pair of scissors and some glue, these projects are for you.
My Holiday List
‘Tis the season for blogger gift guides. Since I am not much of a shopper, curating a lengthy list of items is not something I enjoy. However, like most people, there are a few things on my personal wish list. You are under no obligation to send me a present. Ha! Since we likely have some things in common, my list might spark some ideas for you or someone you love.
- Down Mittens with articulated fingers inside–my dream combo –
I already boughtSanta already bought these for me. PS: Everything at Eddie Bauer is 50% off right now. - Sorel Out N About Duck Boot – I have never been disappointed by a Sorel product ever. My current snow boots are still in great shape for deep snow and winter activities. The shorter duck boots would work well for daily use.
- Speaking of duck boots, how cute are these plaid ones? I already have a pair of Sperry duck boots in brown. They are excellent for cool, wet weather. When I lived in California, I never needed this many different kinds of shoes!
- 25 Foot Retractable Extension Cord – Wouldn’t it be nice to get rid of the extension cord jumble?
- Electric Mattress Warmer with two controllers – I think this was on my list last year. I sleep with a heating pad at my feet, but it shuts off every three hours. Imagine ten hours of cozy warmth. Ahhhh.
- A Waterhog doormat for the front entry in Charcoal to protect our newly refinished floors – I have heard nothing but good reviews about the mats from LLBean.
What is on your list this year? Also, have you decorated for the holidays yet? I haven’t even started. My daughter is excited to put up the tree, and I promised her we would do it today. It has been so cold and icy here that I may not be able to hang the outdoor lights at all. I can handle the cold, but ice and ladders are a bad combination. Send some clear skies our way if you have them.
Have a great weekend!

I hope your daughter has fun putting up your tree! My middle child put up ours this year. I think I would be really excited to decorate if our living room was updated.

Hi Kalila, I’m sorry it took me so long to respond to your comment. Somehow, I missed these last few. She and her brother set it up, and they had a lot of fun. 🙂

“Santa” bought me a pair of Sorel’s, too! During the week of Thanksgiving, they had a different style half price plus free shipping each day. I was able to get the classic caribou style and couldn’t be more excited! Now, it just needs to snow again. You wouldn’t think that would be a problem in Colorado. 🙂

I also just got the mattress pad. It rocks!! My husband is going through chemo and has been really important. We could have written this post together. 🙂

Next year, I should just see what is on your list! 😀 It sounds like we have plenty in common. I am sorry that your husband has to go through chemo, and I’m glad that the mattress pad has brought him some comfort. <3

I had no idea anyone made mittens with finger channels. Game changer!

They are so perfect for cold days! It was 12 degrees this morning, and my hands were toasty warm on my dog walk.

I just wanted to thank you for the mitten recommendation. I ordered these for a week long trip to -20 degree weather. They were amazing! My hands were warm and I could still use my DSLR. Thanks again!
Stacy
I am so glad you like them! Thank you for coming back to tell me. I wear them every day on my dog walk, and my fingers haven’t been cold yet. They are so pillowy soft inside too.
