I will never be able to change the way I get things done completely, but I have been working so hard at keeping my work life organized and on track. So, it’s exciting to admit that the plans for our main bedroom are nearly complete! The spring One Room Challenge starts on Thursday, May 6. Every time I participate in the One Room Challenge, I learn something new about myself as a creative. During the living room project, I discovered that I do not understand color even though I think I got it mostly right in the end.

Studying color is where I’ve spent my focus preparing for this round of the challenge. Color is one of those things that is not always noticeable when it’s right, but wow, does it look bad when it’s wrong. All around BHH, I cannot unsee my mistakes, but I’ll correct them in time.
Tapping into my creative side has been so fun. Naturally, I want to show you everything immediately, but I am holding myself back. For now, here’s a sneak peek of the rug.
For months I searched for a large-sized vintage rug I could afford, but I had no luck. Maybe that last Facebook Marketplace find was a unicorn after all. Once it became clear that I could better spend my time elsewhere, I focused on new natural fiber rugs instead. Ultimately, I landed on the one above. I like the subtle texture, thickness, and it fits the color aesthetic of my mood board.
Though I won’t be sharing the mood board until the first week of the One Room Challenge, I will tell you that the color red plays a part. Also, per SH’s suggestion, I’m going to turn the bench into a plant area instead of a sitting area. SH is a long-time reader of the blog. Putting plants on the bench makes more sense, especially since we already have a chair in the room.
Now, I am sitting on my hands, so I won’t tell you more, and it pains me to keep this secret. Do you enjoy the excitement build-up? Are you team surprise or team tell me everything right this minute because I can’t stand it anymore?

Team ‘tell me everything this minute because I can’t stand it anymore’ all the way!!
Stacy
I had a feeling. 😀

Loving that rug; the soft pattern will add a hint of interest but not steal the spotlight. I think I’d either pick Team–show me peeks then the big surprise (aka SOP) Or. Team–show/tell me everything, but no one else. 😉

“Team–show/tell me everything, but no one else. ?” Haha!

It sounds like things are really coming along. I know you struggled with color in the living room project, but I really loved how it turned out in the end. (and with furniture arrangement, etc) I’m eager to see how red takes part in your bedroom–one of my favorite colors, but not one I’ve worked into my own house very much.
One of the things I like about the ORC is that you often do get taken along for the whole DIY ride. There are definitely some accounts where that is somehow missing, but the best thing about BHH is that we always get to see all the bits and pieces, not just initial idea and final product.
I will admit I don’t understand the idea of saving everything for “the big reveal” from both a practical and a “it’s what I want” stand point. For those that monetize their blog, why save for one (1) big reveal post when you could eke out 20 posts along the way, and potentially get 20 times the blog traffic? Do people really not bother to look at the reveal when they’ve seen the paint color already? I’ve never understood it. And as someone who reads a lot of mystery books, I’m usually reading for the entirety of the writer’s craft, not only one whodunnit moment. If the only thing going for your book is that you could withhold some secret to the end, there isn’t a lot of substance to the rest of your book, is there? See: why I’ve never read Girl On A Train, because the only thing anyone ever talked about was “the amazing twist”…not character development, not plot as a whole, only the one twist. I need more!

That living room color fiasco is something I do not want to repeat. 😀
You make some very valid points about a big reveal vs. showing little bits and parts. I appreciate it. One thing that always leaves me a little disappointed about participating in the ORC is that I go in with the best intentions to talk about the process, and then I get into the thick of the work. Many times I end up writing something along the lines of, “Well, that happened. Here it is.” It feels like there is only time to scratch the surface.
Taking a proper amount of time to plan means that I will hopefully do a better job explaining my choices.
PS: I enjoy mysteries too!

Also team “show me everything”, I am excited to follow along but I would rather know now!
Stacy
I’m excited that you’re excited! I probably won’t hold everything back.

I love seeing the journey, reading about the decisions made (and why), the struggles, and the problems solved (or compromises made). The discoveries – good or bad – are what we learn from!
Stacy
I may have been unclear. During the eight weeks of the challenge, I’ll share everything leading up to the big reveal. What I meant in this post is that I’m going to hold off on sharing more until the actual challenge starts. 🙂

As usual, I was probably reading too fast
Stacy
I don’t think so. I think you were probably just responding to how I wrote the post. The other comments were similar, and it was only when I read yours that I realized what might have happened–lost in translation. 🙂

Team surprise me! I love surprises. I’m excited to hear and see more. ❤️
Stacy
I have lots of surprises for you, Jeri!
