Well, we’re in the final days of the One Room Challenge, and it’s all coming together here in the main bedroom. The rest of the bedding arrived, and it’s perfect. I’ll be showing it off next week. The universe dropped a pretty big gift in my lap this past week too.
At the end of last week’s post, I mentioned a cheap cabinet that I found on Facebook Marketplace. I wrote:
I wanted an antique, and I will continue to look for the perfect piece. In the meantime, I am painting the cheapo one in a bright color TBD.Â
Well, exactly one day later, I found the perfect piece! I was wasting time on FB Marketplace (again), and amongst a sea of beautiful antiques, I saw this cover photo:
Well, normally, I wouldn’t even click on a photo like that. What in the world was it? A dresser? table? clock? I dunno. Something compelled me to take a look, and now this hidden treasure lives in BHH.
What I cannot get over is that it is in near-perfect condition, and it cost $30. No, I did not forget a zero. I paid $30! The legs and that cute little finial on the bottom were dusty, but that’s it. Originally, the owner listed it for $50, but no one was interested in clicking on that cover photo to find out more. So, my tip for Facebook Marketplace is to always click on the bad photos. You might get lucky. I’ve never used a dating app, but perhaps the same principle could be applied. It’s worth a shot!
The only other news to report this week is that all of the sewing is complete, thank goodness. Earlier this week, I finished hemming the drapes, and just today, I wrapped up all of the throw pillow covers. I know I said I was going to turn the Cavallini and Co napkins into art, buuuuuttt…
They really wanted to be throw pillows instead.
The pillow inserts arrive tomorrow, so I’ll have to wait to show you the real deal during next week’s big reveal. (That’s pure poetry.) Until then, here is a general idea.
The pieced triangle pillows are done too, and I’m really pleased with how they turned out. I’m not sure how many of these pillows will end up on the bed, but I’ve got a few days to play around with them. There will be a pillow cover sewing tutorial on the blog early next week. They are so easy to sew, and I have big plans to swap these out seasonally.

Next week is the big reveal, and I’m not sure if I will have two major art pieces by then. I want something for over the fireplace and also on the wall behind the bed. I haven’t wanted to rush the decision. One thing I have enjoyed about this main bedroom makeover is how intentional every decision has been so far. I love the idea of Andy and I choosing art together, and that might not happen in one week. We’ll see.
I encourage you to head on over to the One Room Challenge blog. The featured designers posted updates yesterday, and the other guest participants will post their week six updates today.
Feel free to weigh in about art below. Where do you like to buy it? What do you envision in a room like this one? Any tips for purchasing art?

What a fabulous cabinet find!! And the pillows look awesome. Can’t wait to see the reveal. Some places to find art… Local high school art show (this is the right time of year). Local framing shops. Local art guilds. Your friends who are makers/artists. Antique shops. Happy art searching!
Stacy
Thank you so much! Many of your ideas for finding art are new to me too.

My most favorite way to buy art is to go to local art shows and local art galleries/art shops/coffee shops, followed by the art gallery at sci-fi conventions, but etsy is also a very practical alternative. And I have also gotten some brilliant pieces from estate sales! https://www.estatesales.net/ should have sales & auctions local to you.
Stacy
Thank you! I will have to expand beyond my town, which is pretty artsy. Thank you for that estate sale link too. It never occurred to me that there would be a universal link for local sales.

That looks like the game cabinet in our family room! I love it!

That’s an excellent use for a cabinet like this one!

Art purchasing for me is all about the feeling. I don’t care as much if it matches. I like to buy art that makes me happy or brings up a memory, etc. I’m terrible about hanging the art but I’ve begun to buy it.
Stacy
I agree 100%. Art is different than decor.

I like to buy original art whenever possible. Like other folks have mentioned, art galleries and craft fairs are a great place to find some unique pieces. I also like to check out thrift shops and antique shops- you never know what you might find. I’ve gotten some beautiful watercolors, etchings and ceramic pieces from thrift stores. Check out Rookwood Pottery for some beautiful decorative tiles. Laurel Mercantile features some beautiful prints by Adam Trest. Artist Laurel Hecht has some beautiful vibrant prints available. Gwen Hefner has beautiful ceramic work as well as woodcut prints. Happy Art hunting!

Thank you for all of these ideas, especially the specific artists.
