Way back in olden times, pre-pandemic, the One Room Challenge was only six weeks long. More than once, I’ve sent thanks out into the universe that we all now have eight weeks. How did we complete an entire room in barely over a month? It was chaotic and stressful. I remember that.
If this is your first time here, I invite you to catch up on the details of this project here: week 1 | week 2 | week 3 | week 4
Unfortunately, I missed a weekend of work, but it was for an excellent reason. I took a quick trip to Utah to visit Andy to celebrate our anniversary. We went to one of our very favorite places, Zion National Park, and I’ll write more about that tomorrow. Must. stay. focused.
I flew back on Monday, and Tuesday, I hit the ground running. Currently, I’m hanging drywall, which doesn’t make for very aesthetically pleasing photos. Since the tiler will be here on November 7th, fingers crossed, I’m in a time crunch to get at least the shower waterproofed. Before I can waterproof the floor, the plumber needs to come to fix that toilet flange. We have nothing scheduled right now, and the ball is in his court.
If I have to tile the floor myself, it will be ok. Tiling a floor is straightforward, and the guest bathroom is small.
Paint (again!)
As my grunt work continues, I’ve been sort of itching for a bit more contrast between the finishes I chose and the woodwork. Everyone is into moody jewel box colors right now, but I’m going for something subtler because:
a. I found some unused paint in the basement, and
b. A pale color is a better look for the original wood window.
Right now, the entire room is painted Whipped by Clare. It’s a fresh, creamy white, and I love it for the walls.
I also used it in my office.
However, when I found a full quart of Sherwin-Williams Urethane Trim Enamel in Agreeable Gray hiding in the basement, I knew it had potential. (proximity = potential)
Unfortunately, it’s too dark in the bathroom to take a photo today, but I did paint a swatch, and the color looks good with the white and the bright sink skirt fabrics. I was a little worried about that. The contrast is very subtle, but the slightly darker woodwork gives the bathroom more texture–more oomph.
Gray is certainly not my go-to color, but Agreeable Gray is warm and cozy. It will serve its purpose in the guest bathroom, and I have zero extra money to shoot toward this project.
Once again, I hope to have some shower and wall waterproofing photos to share with you next week. Hope is all I’ve got at this point. Until then, please visit the One Room Challenge blog to see the progress everyone else has made during week five.
Thank you for being here.

Congratulations on your wedding anniversary! Small progress is still progress. I had to laugh when you said you would use Agreeable Gray for your trim. Our new retirement cottage is basically a rental and we cannot make any alterations. The wall color throughout is Agreeable Gray ?. I wouldn’t have chosen it, but now that we are living here, I find the color, well, quite agreeable.

Thank you for the anniversary wishes! Agreeable gray is quite agreeable indeed. Is it gray, beige, or white? Yes, it is. 🙂
