Travel & Tours
Currently, there are no upcoming tours planned, but I will keep you posted!
What are the Advantages of Traveling with a Tour?
- Tours cover a lot of ground. The itineraries tend to be general, and tours are an excellent way to get a good overview of a large region.
- No driving or finding parking – The transportation is comfortable, and someone else does the driving. I will always remember our coach driver inching around the corners on the narrow streets of Edinburgh in a full-size bus. I would not want that responsibility.
- Making new friends – No one hits it off with everyone, but in my experience, the people on Holiday Vacation tours are friendly and kind. It is nice to see a familiar face every day, even if you don’t spend time together one-on-one. My mother, an experienced tour traveler, still vacations with a friend she met on one of her first tours.
- Someone else handles the planning. I enjoy planning travel, but some people do not. On a tour, it’s all taken care of, and the tour guide spends most of their time confirming activities and accommodations to make sure everything goes smoothly.
What if I don't want to do something listed on the itinerary?
If something on the schedule doesn’t interest you, you are not obligated to participate. I skipped a big castle tour in Edinburgh in favor of wandering around the nooks and crannies of the city instead. That said, most people choose to participate because the excursions are fun. The only rule is that you must move from hotel to hotel with the group. No one gets left behind.
I have special dietary restrictions or food allergies. Will Holiday Vacations be able to accommodate that?
For the most part, the answer is yes. So far, I’ve been on tours with people who are vegetarian and gluten-free. If you have very strict or life-threatening allergies, I would suggest you contact Holiday Vacations directly to make sure this experience will meet your needs.
What is the benefit of booking this trip with you specifically?
I’m delighted you asked. Even a small group with the same interests can enhance the overall experience. It’s fun to chat and hang out with other people who also love old houses and geek out over history and architecture. For the past two trips, our small old house travel family has been absorbed into the rest of the tour of independent travelers. We’ve had dinners together and spent time walking around siteseeing in the off hours too. I try to plan a little something just for us, too.
At the very least, I’ll be a built-in travel friend, so there will be at least one person you already know. I’ll grease the wheel in social situations.
