Travelogue: Photos from the Crisp Point Lighthouse

The week before Labor Day, we took what is becoming our annual pilgrimage to the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. I know I shared photos and a video last year, but please bear with me as I abandon all social skills and share more this year without even asking if you’re interested.

It’s the light that gets me. At almost 47° north, the sky reads differently than it does here where I live. I have a visceral and emotional response to it rather than simply seeing the colors and the great expanse of Lake Superior. Of course, the desolation and lack of modern-day stressors help too. There is little else to do other than watch the sky change over 24 hours, and that is just fine by me.

Mid-Day

Please excuse the slight blurriness of this photo of Millie. She was busy living her best life, and she could not be bothered to stay perfectly still.

We got to go up to the top of the Crisp Point lighthouse this year, which was a highlight for me. I am still working on the video from this trip. When it is done, I’ll share more about that.

Evening & Sunset

We are already plotting and planning for next year. Have you been to the UP? If so, are there other remote areas that you can recommend? Although we love Crisp Point, we are interested in exploring other locations too.

My mind can’t comprehend that there are waves in the middle of the country.

I know! I feel the same way. People could actually surf or at least boogie board, except the water is ice cold. Ha!
