I know good and well that a picture is worth a thousand words. So, here is the photo proof of our weekend progress:
On Thursday, I was able to remove the glass from the window. However, when I went to order the new piece of glass, I found out it would take a couple of days. We have this great glass shop in town. They sell new glass, but they also salvage old wavy glass from windows that have been replaced and buildings that are torn down. It makes me very cranky when people remove old sash windows in the name of energy efficiency. A properly maintained old window is energy efficient and certainly more beautiful than a basic modern window could ever be. I digress.
I wanted a piece of antique glass for this pane since it is one of five windows all in a row. Preserving our historic windows as much as possible is important to us. I already feel bad enough for slapping drywall on the ceiling instead of plaster. Using proper glass was the least I could do.
After some digging, the glass shop was able to salvage a couple of pieces for me to review. I chose the thicker of the two. Saturday, I popped in the new/old glass, and Monday I glazed the window. Now, the glazing has to cure for a week or two. Once that is done, I will be able to paint the rest of the window, and this project will be complete.
I finished the director’s chair covers and porch on Thursday. M. helped me do the sewing. She likes to sit in my lap and push the foot pedal while I maneuver the fabric. We make a good team. I kind of went out on a limb with this fabric choice. Clearly, BHH is not a sweet little adobe in the Southwest or a rugged mountain cabin in Montana, but this cowboy fabric just caught my eye. I really tried to buy flowered fabric. I carried a bolt of floral canvas duck around the store with me for quite some time. I considered design continuity and all that jazz, but the heart wants what the hearts wants. The cowboy fabric came home with me instead.
The porch still looks a little ho-hum, but it is tidy and ready to entertain. Decorating BHH is tricky since we moved from 1700 square feet to BHH which is over 4,000 square feet. What that really means is that we have a shortage of furniture, and we have spaces in BHH that we never had in our old house. Personally, I like the emptiness, but I am attempting to bulk up each space a little because otherwise, the rooms just look too sterile.
Sunday was marathon day. The weather was perfect, and I hit my running goal exactly. I trained for 3:58, and I hit it spot-on. I had a smile on my face the entire race. I cannot wait to do it again. My next marathon is in October. I followed that with an epic nap, but I deferred the beer until the next day.
As I hoped, recovery went well, and Andy and I were able to paint in the living room on Monday. Due to the darkness of the room, I was unable to get any proper photos of our progress, but I will give you a sneak peek of the new paint color:
I was a little nervous about this color when I finally pulled the trigger at the paint store and made a decision. However, now that I see it on the wall, I really like it. Pulling the whole room together with the new paint, furniture and accessories still feels very far away, but seeing this color on the walls feels like progress.
That is our big weekend wrap-up. Rumor has it that the roofers will be starting today, but it is already 10:00Â a.m., and no one is here yet. I will keep you updated.

Although our house is smaller than the previous place we lived (because we shared that space with a bunch of other people), I feel like I ran into the same issue with furniture. I’ve found living in the space for a while and moving things around to fit your needs is the best way to make previously owned pieces work before buying new. Good luck with roofing!

That makes a lot of sense.
