Workshop FAQs
What about lead safety?
Stacy is RRP-certified in lead-safe practices from the State of New York and we will be using many of the same lead-safe practices you would want to use on your windows at home. All participants will be required to sign a lead and asbestos liability waiver, wear a p100 mask, and follow lead-safe guidelines.
Where do I park?
Please DO NOT park on any of the streets in the Institute. While you may see some of this occurring it is technically not allowed as it blocks the narrow street not only from pass-by traffic but emergency vehicles. There are designed parking areas along the edges of Burt Park and along the lake.
Where can I stay?
Participants are responsible for their own lodging. The towns nearest to Silver Lake are Castile, Perry, Warsaw, Mt. Morris, and Geneseo. Geneseo is the village with the most services. However, there are a handful of options available within a 20-minute drive in all of these spots. Find a curated list at exploregeneseevalley.com.
What about meals?
Our meals will be provided and will consist of a box lunch and snacks throughout the day. Once we have the exact menu, we will share that information. If you have any dietary needs that you have not already indicated in ticketing please do so as soon as possible. Evening meals are on your own.
Are there required material?
Yes, please make sure you arrive with:
- A P100 Lead Paint Respirator Mask
- work gloves
- eye protection
- ear protection (optional but highly encouraged)
- two sets of work clothes + a trash bag to transport them home.
- water bottle
When do I need to arrive?
Check-in will occur at the Hoag Art Gallery, 6951 Wesley Ave, Silver Lake, NY between 4:30 and 5:30 PM. The Workshop will officially kick off at 5:30 PM so please make every attempt to check in by then. Please bring your ticket receipt and review the required lead and photo waiver ahead of time.
What should I wear?
The EPA’s Renovation, Repair, and Painting (RRP) guidelines recommend wearing disposable coveralls, a painter’s hat, shoe covers, a certified respirator, eye protection, and gloves to minimize exposure to lead dust. However, you may choose what is most appropriate for yourself. Many participants choose to wear clean work clothes each day and transport used clothes home in a sealed plastic bag. Closed-toed shoes are required and should also return home in a plastic bag.
Please note that a P-100 respirator, eye protection, and work gloves are required. Have a look at our photos to see what participants typically wear.
Tell me about the excursion.
The excursion is optional, but we highly recommend it because it is a casual opportunity to hang out with the group and get to know each other better. Also, Letchworth State Park is know as “The Grand Canyon of the East.” It’s a beautiful park with a unique history.

What is the optional painting workshop?
At the end of the weekend, you will have learned to fully restore a wood window and receive a brief tutorial on painting your finished product.
Since painting time is limited, we offer the free painting workshop for a half day on Monday. It’s a chance to hone your painting skills with a few more hours of practice, all in service to the beautiful Epworth Hall. We use the time to paint sash and finish up any lingering glazing on the workshop windows.
It’s a casual, fun way to wrap up the weekend.
Breakfast is provided.
What if I need a refund?
Refunds are considered on a case by case basis and can not be offered if your seat(s) can not be backfilled. Please make any and all refund requests before June 15, 2025.
